R3: Final Trailer

Creating My Film Poster and Magazine Cover

Changes whilst Filming and Editing

Editing (+ Explanation)

With these shots of our main image walking in a room, after putting the shots into iMovie and watching them, we decided we would cut down the shots as we felt they were too long. We did this by right-clicking the shot, and pressing on 'clip trimmer' and then we adjusted the time to make the shots shorter. We did this for all the walking and foot tapping scenes to make it go quicker.

Explanation of Changes in Poster and Magazine Cover following Audience Feedback

Audience Feedback - Trailer - First Draft

My audience feedback for the first draft of my trailer was that the trailer did not make much sense as they did not understand the narrative of the trailer. After watching the trailer, I explained the narrative but they said it was not shown clearly in the trailer. They said they liked some of the shots that were included in the first draft such as the leaves shot which was reversed in editing and the shot of the necklace spinning. I agreed with my audience feedback as we definitely needed to include some more shots and scenes for the narrative to make more sense and then this would make the genre more clearer to audiences.

The first shot we filmed was at our school in a woodsy area. We got our actress to stand in the woods and we threw leaves at her to suggest that time is moving and that leaves are being thrown at her to suggest that she is time travelling and we decided we would reverse it in editing. We also filmed her standing in the woods holding her necklace and looking at it to suggest that she is waiting for something to happen.

Another shot we filmed was the foot tap scene near the lockers in the science corridor, as we decided school would be one of the destinations she would travel to. We also filmed her walking down the corridor with the lights flickering on and off to suggest something was going on that was abnormal.

16/11/15
We filmed our main actress sat on the train so the audience would know she was travelling somewhere. We had the idea of filming the reflection as it looked better and the effects of the lights made it seem more sci-fi.

We also filmed her looking out the window at the moving trains and we filmed a shot (inspired by the ‘Lucy’ time travelling scene) where the main actress put her hands out and it made it look like she was controlling the movement of the train.

Another shot we filmed was we got our main actress to stand in a room and hold her necklace out in front of her and look at it whilst we moved the camera to do a tracking shot of her so we circled the camera around her whilst she stayed looking at the necklace. This shot was to suggest that she was studying the necklace to see how she can travel through time.

20/11/15
We filmed some scenes at a house which involved the two main characters (Sophie and her grandmother). We filmed them having a conversation about the time travelling and the grandmother giving Sophie advice. We also filmed the main character going onto her laptop and searching for a newspaper article that was about her mother’s mysterious death.

25/11/15
On this day, we filmed scenes at a house and we filmed scenes with the younger version of Sophie and this helps the audience to understand Sophie’s past. We filmed the scene of when the grandmother hands the necklace to Sophie for the first time, along with her looking at the necklace.

Magazine Cover - First Draft (& Audience Feedback)

My Audience Feedback:

  • Informative
  • Attractive and eye-catching
  • Bar code looks too small
  • Maybe advertise something on the right hand side of the cover where there is space

Poster - First Draft (& Audience Feedback)

My audience feedback:

  • They liked the way the 'R3' title was smudged
  • They didn't like the background being blurred out is that they didn't understand why it was like that
  • They said they'd have to know the film for the poster to make sense
  • They also didn't like that the word 'never' was written in red and I agreed with this comment.

Billing Block Ideas

I had planned out my billing block using inspiration from other films which are added at the end of the trailers. I tried a few different fonts that could be included onto my poster and on my trailer. I liked the first two fonts but I felt they did not look as realistic as the last font but the first two fonts are slightly easier to read. I liked all fonts below but the ‘Impact’ font looks the most realistic and will make my poster and film trailer look more professional.

Font: Calibri

Font: Adobe Fansong Std R
